- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups (480 ml) heavy cream
- 1 cup (100 g) grated cheddar cheese
- 1 cup (100 g) grated Gruyère cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream with minced garlic, salt, and pepper until just simmering.
- In a greased baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes evenly.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese to create another layer.
- Dot the top with butter and cover the dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh thyme if desired.

- For an extra creamy texture, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
